30 March - The first final of the Dave Layfield Memorial Shield tonight with Railway Club B looking to take another trophy back over the river whilst Horse & Groom D will be out for revenge.
26 March - Top two clash in Div 1 tonight (and in the Cup next week) whilst the Div 2 leaders both have Byes so the teams below will be looking to take advantage in both cases.
19 March - No more teams lost this week although the Byes in Division Two should see some possible changes to the top over the next few weeks, especially tonight.
16 March - Sunday Team Cup final tonight with Railway A looking to take the cup from holders Groom D.
14 March - Competition entry forms are available to download from Form downloads, Competitions and Sunday and Wenesday pages.
13 March - The Individuals, Pairs and Captains competitions are coming in May. Provisional dates are listed on the Other Comps page. The entry form will be emailed out (and available for download) as soon as it has been checked over.
12 March - We have been informed this morning that the Ship & Pelican team have withdrawn from Division Two. Tables and fixtures will be adjusted later. Luckily, they had the Bye this evening.
9 March - It's the final match of the Sunday season with the top four all with a chance of taking the title if results go anything like last week.
Many thanks to everyone for a good, close season and we hope you are all back next year.
6 March - Missing Division One result in leaving Allstars Z 13 points adrift of Groom D. Still waiting for the Div 2 result.
5 March - Match fifteen with the Division One leaders trying to reach the "uncatchable" point as soon as possible. Division Two still a bit closer although the top two have a little bit of a buffer.
3 March - Both the leaders managed to lose last night, with the other two matches drawn, so the table hasn't changed although there are now only four points separating the top four. Could be very interesting next Sunday.
2 March - Penultimate league matches of the Sunday season tonight. With only eight points separating the top four, it should be a close finish.
We have been informed that the Whipton & Pinhoe Labour Club team have withdrawn from Wednesday Division Two. All points from their matches will be removed and the tables updated. (Puts Ship & Pelican back above Heart of Oak C and extends the Allstars S lead at the top to two points).
27 February - Final Division One result in with Lucombe B beating Allstars Uni 5-2 and leaving the table positions as they were before we started.
26 February - Wednesday match fourteen and the chasing pack in both divisions will be hoping that they can close in on the leaders in the next few weeks, starting tonight.
23 February - Dave Layfield Memorial Shield semis tonight.
9.50pm - Railway Club B and Horse & Groom D are the Shield finalists.
20 February - Draws for the Wednesday Team Cup semis and the venue for the Plate final are online.
19 February - Wednesday Cup last eight and the semis of the Plate tonight.
16 February - Match 12 tonight with second and third meeting and both hoping not to fall too far behind the leaders.
13 February - Final two Division Two results in with two more away wins, making nine. Heart of Oak C continue their climb up the table, reaching fifth by virtue of "frames for".
12 February - Match thirteen tonight, who will it be unlucky for?
9 February - Four to go and Groom D will be looking to maintain their four point lead over Railway A tonight.
5 February - The second half of the Wednesday fixtures commence this evening. There is potential for the top of Division Two to look a little different tonight.
2 February - Better weather this weekend, though not for long. Back to league action tonight with the top two clashing and the third place team at the bottom club hoping to close in on the leading pair.
30 January - Three of the missing four results in with minimal effect on the tables, most teams are where they were last week with a few exceptions. The final missing result for Division Two will affect the bottom four only.
29 January - It's the end of the first half of the season tonight with top two in Division One 13 points clear of third place, though that may change tonight. Division Two very tight at the top with the two leaders meeting, but both still 9 points clear of third.
26 January - Sunday Cup semis tonight, assuming we aren't flooded out or blown away.
23 January - Final result in with minimal change to the Division Two table.
22 January - Well into the month and we finally get to league pool. Round ten and not expecting major changes at the top of either table whilst the middle of both is very tight and a good result could have a major impact for any team.
20 January - Missing result in and whilst Railway and Groom D have the same points, Railway stay top through having won more matches.
19 January - Sunday match nine, and Railway A will be hoping the matches go as they did in the first half of the season to maintain their slim lead at the top.
18 January - Draws for the forthcoming Sunday Cup, Wednesday Cup & Plate and the Sunday Memorial Shield are now on the various fixtures and competitions pages.
17 January - It is with deepest regret that we have to announce the passing of Kev Carver, an ever-present player for a substantial part of the time Exeter Pool has been going. It has been requested that, if possible, we could hold a minute silence before the forthcoming Sunday and Wednesday matches to remember a friend who will be sorely missed.
A couple of photos (a few years apart!). Kev is second left in the first one,
and is third from the left in this one.
15 January - Good weather at the moment so hopefully we will get to the Cup and Plate matches tonight.
12 January - The start of the second half of the Sunday season tonight with Groom D only a couple of points ahead of Railway A after last weekend. There were three draws at the very start of the season, could we have the same tonight?
8 January - 8 January - We kick off the 2025 Wednesday action with the Team Cup & Plate tonight, as long as the weather holds! Hopefully things will be ok for this evening.
5 January - Back to league action tonight as we round off the first half of the Sunday season.
1 January 2025 - A Happy New Year to you all, hope the hangovers weren't too bad this morning.
25 December - A very merry Christmas to you all! Enjoy the break.
19 December - Final Division One result in with the Yeoman derby match going to the last game.
A couple of weeks rest now before we are back for the cup and plate matches, have a good Christmas and New Year folks.
18 December - The final matches of 2024 tonight, probably won't be a lot of goodwill about.
16 December - Results from last night finally online!
15 December - The final Sunday matches of 2024 and the first outing for the Dave Layfield Memorial Shield. (Hope the instructions make sense)!
12 December - Final two Division Two results in with one result undoing most of the middle table changes and the other one lifting the bottom team up to tenth.
11 December - Match eight tonight and at ten pm we have three results in, two of which are making the top of Division Two interesting.
8 December - Sunday match Six and the last league fixtures of 2024. Still quite tight at the top with any of the top four theoretically capable of being top tonight, although with two of them meeting the other two could benefit.
5 December - Allstars S remain top of Division Two by one point after their 4-3 defeat by Ship & Pelican who remain fourth just three points behind. Clifton Inn probably wishing the points system hadn't changed as they would have been top with six wins.
Clifton Inn Wanderers have beaten Devon Yeoman T to finish another place up the table.
4 December - Wednesday match seven and there could be a few changes tonight, with a top of the table clash in Division One, although nobody else can catch them yet, and the top six variously clash in the second division with only eight points covering them all.
1 December - 10.15pm, Sunday match five and two results in with a new table topper as Horse & Groom D power up to the top spot with a 6-0 win over Groom N whilst Allstars X are third for now with their 4-2 win over Railway A.
28 November - Final result now in and another 4-3, making eight from twelve matches last night. This means there is just a technical change in Division One as two teams have the same stats, whilst there were only the four teams involved in swapping places in Division Two. Maybe next week's fixtures will result in a few changes.
27 November - Wednesday match six tonight with the top teams all hoping to maintain their run this season. The top two clash in Div 2 which may help the third placed side.
24 November - Match four for Sunday and still very tight at the top. Hope the weather eases a bit by tonight.
21 November - Final Division Two score in with the winning side staying third in the table and the losers dropping below them, a new team creeping up into second place.
20 November - Match five tonight with two second v third clashes and a chance for some of the others to close up. Both top teams likely to win though.
17 November - Sunday Cup action tonight. Results online as received tonight.
14 November - Draws for the second round of the Wednesday Team Cup and the first round of the Team Plate are now on the various cup and fixtures pages.
13 November - Team Cup action tonight with 5 inter-divisional matches and a good chance of the lower division team going through in several. Results online as received tonight.
11 November - The final result is in with Groom N now on top by virtue of losing one less leg than Groom D. Topsham FC now off the bottom.
10 November - Week three for Sunday and the top two clashing tonight with the third placed team waiting to pounce.
6 November - Week four and tight at the top of both divisions as we approach the break for the Cup.
Now waiting to hear back from one team about the incorrectly marked score from last week. Will update this evening before tonight's matches. (Update-Adjusted score accepted.)
3 November - Week two of the Sunday campaign, will it be as close as last week?
30 October - Week three and hopefully not a week of horror for any team, what with Halloween (and the Budget) as well.
28 October - Draws have been made for the various Cup and Shield competitions and are on the various Competitions pages.
28 October - The clocks have gone back and the Sunday season is finally starting tonight, good luck to you all.
24 October - Final result is in and the tables updated.
23 October - Week 2 of the new season and a couple of teams will be looking to put some points on the table tonight.
17 October - Final result is in and the tables updated.
16 October - The day has finally arrived to start the new Winter season, hope you all have a good one. Results online tonight as received.
7 October - The Wednesday Fixtures Key now downloads properly and has been updated as we now have the Green Gables in place of the Bye in Division Two.
3 October - Seems there were a few problems with the updated pages recently, it should all be working properly now, especially the download page.
27 September - Sunday and Wednesday fixtures are now online, think I caught all the bugs. The fixtures will be emailed out soon but are available to download from the downloads page or the appropriate day's page.
26 September - A few things from the rather sparsely attended AGM last night.
Firstly, we have decided to remove the Disciplinary Committee Chairman and Vice Chairman roles. For any future disciplinary meetings, the Executive Committe will continue to hold these meetings, with three randomly chosen Captains attending as support.
The three supporting Captains will have the same responsibilities as the Executive Committee, they will be able to have their say and vote. If another discipinary was to occur, we would choose another three random Captains, and so on.
To be able to keep the Pool League running this seems to be the only solution and, even though there are quite a few Captains/Players not wanting to join the committee, in this way all disciplinary meetings will be deemed fair.
Secondly, for both Sunday and Wednesday league tables, there will now be one point per game won with the match winners getting an additional two points i.e. a 5-2 win will mean 7 points for the victors and 2 points to the losers. Match format will remain as before except for the removal of the Golden Frame on Sundays, so a draw is again possible. (For those with long memories, this method of determining the table was last used up to Summer 2000).
Lastly, to pad out the Sunday fixtures a little this season, we have introduced the Dave Layfield Memorial Shield as an extra competition for the Sunday teams. This will be played to a slightly different format, involving Scotch Doubles. Full details to follow.
Wednesday matches will commence on Wednesday 16th October and will run through to the Cup Final on 30th April 2025. This may be subject to change as we will probably have to slot the Presentation Night in somewhere and bump the fixtures along. Sunday matches will commence on Sunday 27th October and run through to the second of the finals on 23rd March. Fixtures will be online and sent out as soon as possible.
21 September - After the registration last Wednesday, we now have eight teams for Sunday and twenty three for Wednesday. Everyone is back from last year except for the Heart of Oak D and the Wonford Social Club, but we now have the Whipton & Pinhoe Labour Club back in the league. (See either the Sunday or Wednesday pages for the full list of teams.)
Any stragglers out there, you have up to and including the AGM to get your forms in.
16 September - Unfortunately we have had to postpone Wednesday night's Presentations
although we will still be holding the Sunday and Wednesday League Registrations as planned.
At least we should all have an earlier night.
We will advise on when we are able to
hold the Presentation Night as soon as we can.
Please note that, at present, the Pool League phone number no longer operates, so any contact will have to be by email. The info@ or league.sec@ email addresses will come to my phone (Kev Marsh) so I am able to see anything fairly quickly.
12 September - We hope a few more people turn up to next Wednesday's Presentation Night and Registration as we had a total of SEVEN at last night's Pre-AGM, and that includes the three of us committee who managed to make it. There were a couple of proposals submitted which will be put to the AGM on the 25th.
10 September - Pre-AGM tomorrow night, 7.00pm at the Horse & Groom. Don't forget, if you have any proposals that need to be put to the AGM (rule changes etc.) then you must present them to us, in writing, so we can decide whether they are worthy of being submitted to the AGM.
Registration will be after the Presentation Night, Wednesday 18th September at the Groom.
16 August - 16 August - Forms are now ready and are being emailed out. If you have not received one (or may not be on our mailing list) you can download any of the forms from the Forms download page. Sunday and Wednesday registration forms are there, along with a nomination form for committee posts and a poster/notification of the three meeting dates in September.
A quick warning about the Pre-AGM (September 11th). If you have any prospective rule changes, format changes or any other ideas for the pool league, please put them in writing and submit them at the Pre-AGM. Anything not submitted to the Pre-AGM will be ignored if you try to bring it forward at the AGM.
15 August - Horse & Groom now confirmed as the venue for all three meetings. Forms being worked on and should be online/emailed out by tomorrow evening.
14 August - Things are in motion. We will be holding the Pre-AGM on Wednesday 11th September, the Presentation Night followed by League Registration on Wednesday 18th September and the AGM will be the following week, 25th September. At the moment all events are scheduled for a 7.00pm start at the Horse & Groom but this is subject to confirmation. The various forms will be emailed out as soon as the venues are confirmed, probably later this week.
Depending on numbers, we will be aiming to start around the same time as last season, i.e. Sunday 13th & Wednesday 16th October, or the week before if all the rumoured new teams materialise.
11 August - Hope you are all enjoying your break, at least it's been sunny some of the time so far.
Once we have sorted out when the Pre-AGM, AGM and probably the Presentation Night are being held, we will send out/make available the registration forms for the forthcoming season. Sometime in September is a reasonable guess for things will get into gear. We hope you will all be back next season, there are rumours of a couple more Sunday teams and there have been several enquiries about new Wednesday teams as well, so maybe things are on the up again. Any queries, please get in touch.
